Operational History
It was received by the USAAF between DEC 1943 - MAR 1944.
Accidents
1 Jul 1945. 309th Base Unit. PARKED AIRCRAFT. Long Beach AAF, CA. Ground Collision. There were two other accidents at Long Beach AAF that day. One of them, Joseph Mandl was piloting a P-80A (44-85017) and was killed during a Take Off Accident due to mechnical failure. The other accident was pilot Thomas N. McInerney who piloting a B-24J (44-28160) and crashed during a landing accident. Further reports make it clear what happened: "Lt Joseph Mandl was killed when his P-80A (44-85017) stalled on takeoff and plowed through a fence and struck a parked A-26."
