Summary
Muroc Flight Test Base (North Base), aerial photograph looking south-west. This site was part of Muroc Army Airfield, which later became Edwards Air Force Base, California, USA.
North Base was used for testing from 1942. HANG-P-A hangar (Building 4505) is at center right. Aircraft present here include a Bell XP-59A Airacomet (upper left), the US military's first jet fighter aircraft. Other aircraft include Douglas C-47s, North American Aviation P-51 Mustangs, and Lockheed P-38 Lightnings. An A-26 Invader is visible parked right in front of the hangar.
North Base is located at the north-west corner of a large desert salt pan called Rogers Dry Lake (white salt deposits at left and bottom). Photographed in 1945. Image Credit unknown.
