In researching source documents for the Clyborns in North Carolina during the 1700s, it is important to keep in mind that county boundaries were rapidly changing during this period, with new counties being created. Thus, for example,when a document refers to Bertie County and then Edgecombe County twenty years later, it is because Edgecombe County was recently created. The table below shows the history of key counties in which the Clyborns lived, and the figure below shows the current-day boundaries of Bertie, Bladen, Edgecombe, Northampton, Granville, Halifax, and Robeson counties.
