Operational History
According to the 1945 Aircraft Produced Under Navy Cognizance report, this plane crashed during delivery. It is unclear exactly when this plane crashed or who was piloting the plane. Since the plane was a previous USAF plane it's not yet clear if USAF pilots flew the planes to the Navy bases, or if Navy pilots came to the USAF base to pick up the planes. As such, I do not yet know if this plane is listed in the USAF accident reports, or the US Navy Accident reports. It's also unclear exactly when this crash occurred happened. The Navy procured a block of JD-1s, serial numbers 77139 through 77224. This plane was the last plane in that order block. The last 35 planes of the block weren't delivered until 1946, but this plane is listed as lost in the 1945 report. I hypothesize that one of the planes allocated for this block crashed while in USAF control in 1945 and because the Navy had not yet assigned the BuNos, they just struck the last number from the block.
